“Are Women Better Parents Than Men” free essay sample

Briana Mitchell Miss. Miller English 1 8 September 2011 â€Å"Are Women Better Parents Than Men? † As a young woman, growing up in a house full of women, I can say that women because from birth, the mother nurtures the child and care for it, even though they aren’t born yet. The mother starts to learn the different ways of that child. Things that the father could never figure out. Then, once the child is born, most of the time, the child stays by (or with) its mother. Because she is the first person they learn. Of course, as me being a female, I was going to choose women as being the better parent as to men being the better parent. But as stated previously, I can back up my answer with observation from my past and from the present day and experience. Looking back over my life, and thinking about how my mother raised me, it was a lot better than how my father â€Å"attempted† to raise me. We will write a custom essay sample on â€Å"Are Women Better Parents Than Men?† or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My mother was a very nice, Christian woman. But she also had rules that we had to follow. She made sure that I would feel comfortable enough so that we would be able to talk to her if we needed to. She always let me know that if we needed her, she would always be there. Unfortunately, for some other children, they don’t have that close bond with their parents (mother and father) because they are either not in their life, or that child just doesn’t feel comfortable communicating with their parents, mostly the fathers. To expound upon my answer, I also know single mothers that are doing a fantastic job raising their kids. I noticed that in a way, the children are raised differently when they are with their mothers then when they are with their fathers. I realized that that the fathers seem to give the kids more leverage. Some kids who have more leverage; meaning that they can do basically whatever they want, usually become spoiled. Then it’s a challenge for the mothers to kind of pull them back to the way they were. These mothers that I know help their children with their homework, teach them to brush their teeth in the morning, and at night. They learn what and whatnot to eat at certain times of the day. For example, they don’t eat snacks and candy for breakfast. They get the exercise that they need on a daily basis. And the children are well-mannered. These kids see their mother as someone that they want to be like when they grow up. When all is said and done, are women are better parents then men? Of course!! My answer will, and always will be that women are better parents then men. Simply because when that child is in the womb, the mother nurtures it and cares for it. The mother learns the various ways of that child like the back of her hand. She knows things about that child that nobody else knows. She knows when that child is going to need her, like a desert needs rain. Like they always say, mothers know best.

Albrecht Durer Biography Essay Example For Students

Albrecht Durer Biography Essay Durer was a goldsmith, he had come from Germany to Nurembourg in 1455 and married Barbara Holper. Barbaras father was Albrechts master. Albrecht was his fathers third son. He was named Albrecht because of a family tradition which he has been the third representative so far. Albrecht had three brothers named Laszlo, Albrecht, and Ajtos. Albrecht was apprenticed to his father at the age of 13. His father introduced him to the working with metal and the use of tools with laid the ground work for his skill of engraving. He also learned painting from his father at the age of 13. He preferred to draw and paint than to goldsmithing. He painted a self portrait of himself at 13. This self-portrait took the careful and the accurate work of all of the details to some him his artistic talent. In 1486, Albrechts father sent him to learn painting and wood working from Michael Wolgemut. Michael Wolgemut was a spectacular painter and woodcut illustrator. In Michael W. s busy shop Albrecht learned the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and wood cutting. Albrecht also helped Micheal W. make some illustrations for books. Michael W. probably took Albrecht to the Netherlands, Basel, Stratsbourg, and in 1492 to Colmar in Alsace. Albrecht spent so much time with him he called him his second father. His main attraction was to see the master, Martin Schongauer. Who at the time was the leading German graphic artist of the time. On the way there Albrecht found out the master had died. On his arrival Martins brothers showed him prints, drawings, and Schongauers perfect engravings from the masters workshop. The prints, drawings, and engravings had a big influence on Albrechts work. Albrecht then went to Basel to stay with another brother of Schongauer, who conducted a goldsmith workshop there. Basel was the center of graphic production and book publishing at the time. In Basel Albrecht made many contacts and contributed a signed woodcut for the title page of the Letters of St. Jerome. The success he had from this woodcut probably led to another commission in Basel. In the fall of 1493, Albrecht went to Stratsbourg where he continued to work for publishers. In the end of May 1494 Albrecht returned to Nurembourg. In July 7, 1494 the 23 year old painter married Agnes Frey. Agnus was the daughter of a merchant. Not long after his marriage in the fall of 1494 he took his first trip to Italy. This visit enabled him to see his good friend Willard Pirckheimer who introduced Albrecht to humanist thought and classical literature. Albrecht spent most of his time of his first trip in Venice, Italy. There he met Jacopo deBarbari. deBarbari whose figures constructed to geometrical methods and proportions inspired Albrecht to live a lifelong study of theoretical writings. In Venice, Albrecht made drawings of exotic figures, animals, and did nature studies. On the ride home Albrecht made a abundant use of his water colors painting the landscape around the Alps. Albrecht returned to Nurembourg by the summer of 1495. With the return of his trip he produced a large amount of paintings and engravings. Albrecht used the medium of engraving because that reflected his theoretical interests. From about 1500 Albrechts concern for the problems of proportion and perspective increased. This action was probably caused by the fresh contacts with the Italian works and study of Vitruvius. In 1502, after a long period of weakness Albrechts father had died. His fathers death had shaken him up a tremendously. Soon after that Albrecht suffered from depression fits and tormenting dreams. â‚ ¬Ã… ¡ His appetite for work had not been impaired due to his father. Venetian school: Giorgione EssayAlbrecht also told Perckheimer that he is not supposed to take drinks or eat from any of the Venetian painters because they all try to copy his work and they are my enemies. In 1509, Albrecht returned home and was elected as a member of Nurembourgs Grand Council. This was a group of 200 men of wealth who sometimes added to their number fellow citizens who had distinguished themselves in other ways. Albrechts new position did not interfere with his artistic production. Back in his workshop he continued to work on the Fall of Man engraving. This engraving was the picture of Adam and Eve standing with the animals. Albrecht changed his method from geometrical construction to the first pair of human beings. The year 1511 was very extraordinary for Albrecht. In that one year he published all of his greatest woodcut series like The Apocalypse, The Large Passion, and The Life of a Virgin. In 1513, Albrecht was mainly concentrating on engraving. He made a charcoal engraved self-portrait of his mother with a personal, tender message. Albrecht was also busy making a huge woodcut Triumphal Procession and Triumphal Arch. In July 1520, Albrecht and his wife took a trip to the Netherlands to see emperor, Charles V. He also had to find new markets for his work. Albrecht did not have good success in the Netherlands but he did meet fellow artists. Albrecht left within a year and produced a number of portrait engravings in Nurembourg. On April 6, 1528, the 57 year old died. At his death his theoretical treaties were not fully completed. Some of them were already published. According to Albrecht, capturing the beauty of the human body is the most meaningful aim of art. But this cannot be realized without knowledge of proportion and anatomy, and only through geometry can be true beauty be known.

Sticks And Stones free essay sample

Words can cause pain. Two of the main reasons people are bullied are because of appearance and social status. Bullies pick on people they think dont fit in, usually because of how they look, how they act, their race, religion, or sexual preference. There are three main types of bullying such as physical bullying, verbal bullying and cyber bullying.Bullying does not just effect children but dulls as well, bullying is a serious problem that needs to be prevented because of the negative effects it has mentally and physically on both the victim and the one doing the bullying and with the right education people can prevent bullying from happening. Solutions to bullying include gathering people together to talk about this serious issue and educating them as to how this is negatively affecting our schools, community, and workplace. Of the three main types of bullying which include physical, verbal and cyber bulling, physical bullying is said to be the worst of type, physical violence twine two people for example; hitting, pushing kicking, tripping, slapping, spitting. We will write a custom essay sample on Sticks And Stones or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Middle school is said to be the age that bullying is the most common, this is the age where young people want more to fit in with their peers, making some students more likely to bully or condone bullying to fit in, when those who dont fit in stand out more as victims. (falsifications. Erg) The victim is almost always weaker than the bully researchers have found that depressed individuals hold negative views of themselves, the world, and the future. The negative expectations characterize hopelessness and can tem from stressful events that have occurred (Spillages Swear 64). These negative views of themselves can easily make them weaker and viewed as a target. Some signs that a student may be a victim of physical bullying are bruises, cuts, unexplained injuries, skipping certain classes or events, withdrawing from others, displaying low self esteem etc. Aggression can be often be mistaken for (physical) bullying, bullying may be considered a subset of aggression, characterized by what is sometimes referred to as Double IR (imbalance of power, intentional acts, and repeated ever time). The bully is usually more powerful than the victim and commits aggressive behaviors i (Orphans Horns 14) It is easy to mix up the two terms bullying vs.. Aggressive behavior but they do have two different meanings. An example in the Harry potter Books, written by Rolling, there is a villainous character named Dorado Mallory who engages in aggressive behaviors directed at Harry Potter. These behaviors are considered aggressive behavior though, not bullying because both of the student have similar levels of power. If Dorado chose someone with less power and not able o fight back or defend themselves then that indeed would be considered bullying, because of the imbalance of the skill sets between the two. The next form of bullying is cyber bullying, The National Crime Prevention Council describes cyber bullying as when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. Cyber bullying is getting more and more popular as technology takes over our society. Almost all children/adults eve some form of technology that allows them to be a victim, or a bully.Hiding behind a computer screen is easy and things can be said without automatic consequences. Cyber bullying is said to not just be a onetime event, there are usually a few encounters that escalate. In this type of bullying there isnt usually just one bully and one victim, the roles tend to switch. Cyber bullying does have consequences and when caught; the national crime prevention council explains the punishment may rise to the level of a misdemeanors cyber harassment charg e, or if the child is young enough may result in the charge of juvenile delinquency. Most of the time the cyber bullying does not go that far, although parents often try and pursue criminal charges, it typically can result in a child losing their ISP or IM accounts as a terms of service violation. In some cases, if hacking or password and identity theft is involved, can be a serious criminal matter under state and federal law. The third form and the most hard to detect is verbal bullying, this type of bullying can be any kind of name calling, gossiping, spoken abuse, this type f bullying occurs when someone uses language to gain power over their peers. This is the type of bullying that may be commonly mixed up with teasing. Teasing is dynamic social interactions comprised of a set of verbal and or non verbal behaviors that occur among peers and is humorous and playful on one level but may be annoying to the target child on another level. Some amounts of teasing are normal but when teasing becomes (verbal) bullying, it becomes repetitive or when there is intent to hur t another emotionally/psychologically . Verbal bullying is the toughest type of bulling to identify such the attacks are not physical and it causes emotional and psychological damage to the victim. This form of bullying is also more prevalent among female bullies, whereas male bullies tend to take the physical form. Besides the difference of the types of bullying there are gender differences in bullying. In general, boys are more likely to engage in physical bullying than girls however, gender differences in verbal bullying are less consistent girls are often cited as using more relational aggression(e. G. Threatening to withdraw from a relationship) than boys (Spillages Swear 16). Girls use rebel bullying as well as social exclusion techniques to dominate others and show their superiority and power. However, there are boys that use verbal techniques for domination they also use words when they want to avoid physically bullying someone else (falsifications. Org). Over all girls tend to be move verbal and base their arguments based on body image. When boys on the other hand have more of a physical intimidation, boys will engage in bullying with other boys and girls when usually girls will only bully other girls typically. Both genders and the way they bully, is equally harmful in their own says. When a bullying situation takes place the victim suffers short and long term effects. Mark Demoded wrote an article describing some short term effects, he included anger, depression, anxiety of settings in which the bullying may occur, greater incidence of illness and lower grades than non bullied peers. When Demoded took a survey on bullying experiences, he found that, of the people attempted suicide secondary to having been bullied, whereas he said only 3% of participants who were not bullied attempted suicide. Bullying is not just a short term event bullying carries on into adult hood The long ERM effects that Demoded listed are reduced occupational opportunities, difficulty trusting people, increased tendency to want to be alone, self esteem problems etc. These short term and long term effects have mental and physical effects on the victims that last long term and seriously affect each person that was bullied. With the right amount of counseling or coping these effects can sometimes be undone but it takes a lot of mind set and confidence building. When one thinks of bullying one tends to think mainly of the effects it has on the victim but the bully him or herself does suffer some short and long ERM effects as well, bullying is violence, and it often leads to more violent behavior as the bully grows up. Its estimated that 1 out of 4 elementary- school bullies will have a criminal record by the time they are 30. (falsifications. Org) Some teen bullies end up being rejected by their peers and lose friendships as they grow older. Bullies may also fail in school and not have the career or relationship success that other people enjoy. Outbuilding. Gob states that, people who do bully others are more likely to abuse alcohol and other drugs in adolescence and as life goes on, get into sights, vandalize property, drop out of school, engage in early sexual activity, have criminal convictions and traffic citation as adults, and be abusive toward their romantic partners, spouses, or children as adults, which brings up the topic of the bullying cycle. The bullying cycle is a vicious cycle where everyone involved is typically hurt in some form. The bullying cycle consists of three parts the first being the person who bullies, the next the victim who gets bullied and last, the larger group that allows the bullying to continue which is usually the peer group. This cycle keeps on going because people let it. In order to stop this cycle says the bullied person needs to stand up for him or herself and report to authority fi gures that the bullying is going on. Bullying is not just something that happens in schools it happens in the work place as well. Most adults who are bullies were most likely bullies as children, and the cycle is continuing through their life still. Teresa Daniel the author of the book Stop Bullying at Work describes work place bullying as, a global concept that incorporates harassment, intimidation, and aggressive or onetime violent behaviors. Its said the bullying behaviors are repeated and attempted by one person to torment, wear down, and frustrate or get a reaction from another. It is treatment which persistently provokes, pressures, frightens and intimidates or otherwise discomforts another person while in the work place. Daniel 6) Daniels took a survey and found that in the recent U. S. Workplace bullying survey which asked why bullying happens, respondents reported the following, fifty six percent of bullying in the work place happens because of some aspects of the personality, twenty percent aid it was the bullys because of the targets personality, while only fourteen percent suggested it was due to systemic issues that are a result of the organizational work environment (31 There are many different types of bullying from physical, cyber, and verbal, to work place bullying.Bullying is an action that affects people of all ages and has short term effects along with some severe long term mental and social effects. Bullying does not only affect the victim but the one bullying as well. There needs to be something done about this awful action. Where do we go from here? Many bullying victims are reluctant to talk about their experiences, making it even harder to help them. Try to notice the symptoms of a victim such as low self esteems, low confidence, physical marks o n the body, etc.The first step in treating the situation is identifying the problem. You need to take an active part, you then need to report the bullying behaviors, show support to the victims and show them that someone out there does care about them. Also, if you can possibly step into the situation stick up for the victim, if you are a teacher you need to make the kids in your classroom aware of the problem. Make some classroom rules against bullying, open up a discussion, let children know if there is a problem you are there to help.Being a teacher you have the responsibility to make sure the kids know what behaviors are acceptable and set consent nuances for when these parameters are ignored. For adult bullying and bullying in the work place, employers also need to be there to set guidelines. Bullying is a serious topic and is not something to be taken lightly. Overall, we can conclude bullying does not just affect children but adults as well, bullying is a serious problem that needs to be prevented because of the active effects it has mentally and physically o n both the victim and the one doing the bullying.

Bulletin Boards as a Part of a Learning Environment

Bulletin Boards as a Part of a Learning Environment Best Practices dictate that you use your bulletin boards. Too often, teachers evaluate each other by how clever their bulletin boards are, especially at the beginning of the school year. Many teachers dip into their own pockets and buy bulletin boards already made, but handmade bulletin boards offer opportunities to: Display Student Work (as models of acceptable or good quality school product.)Support InstructionReinforce desired behaviors Display Student Work Posting student work offers two important impacts on classroom management: Reinforce and motivate students by recognizing their best work product.Model the sort of work that you want students to create. Star Student Work: A dedicated section of the board to post good quality work each week can help motivate students. Project Board: Project-based learning is one way to keep kids excited about learning and fully engaged. In self-contained programs, try rolling from subject to subject: after a big reading project, you start a big science project, or a big inter-subject project, like planning a house or a trip, including making budget (math,) finding a flight (research) and writing an imaginary journal (language arts.) One board could be the project board and turn over every time a new project comes up. Student of the Week: One way to support self-esteem, help students learn about each other and even to do a little public speaking is by having a student of the week. Choose them randomly rather than with any reflection of their behavior (dont decide on Monday that Johnny can no longer be the student of the week because of a bad recess.) Post their picture, a format for each child to tell about favorite foods, television shows, sports, etc. Include some of their work, or if your students portfolio fork, have them choose some papers or project they are particularly proud of. Support Learning Student Boards: Put students in charge of creating a board or boards to go with topics you are studying. Make creating the board (brainstorming, choosing what to find pictures of) a class project. You can have a few students responsible for individual boards, or you can have all students participate by doing research. Teach them how to right click on images online to save them in a file, and then show them how to insert into a Microsoft Word document to print. You will need to check your schools policy for colored output-hopefully you have access to at least one color printer. Word Walls: From kindergarten to graduation, a word wall with important words/terms to learn should be a part of regular instruction. For social studies, you may want to review new terms both as they come up and merely as you are reviewing for assessment. You can involve students in creating the board background (our first will use an undersea theme with sponge painting.) High-frequency words should also be part of word walls, especially with struggling readers. You might want to cluster words with similar endings or with the same irregularity. Interactive Boards: Boards that are puzzles or provide students with practice can be a fun way to use some wall space. A free website provides some fun ideas for interactive boards. Reinforce Desired Behavior There are many ways to reinforce positive classroom behavior. Positive Behavior Support  can include group rewards (a marble jar) awards (best speller, most improved) and homework charts. Your boards can also function to put individual students on notice, either a color chart or color-coded cards.

Book Review Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Book Review Assignment - Essay Example Moreover, the content of the book proves that it is specially written for architecture students. This small book is written as a selection of short comments in the field of design learning. It is specially created for those who are eager to become professional architects. It seems that the author wanted to help modern students by writing such a book as he is very sorry that he did not have this book on his table when he was a student. Actually, the book can be read by everyone who likes architecture and is interested in what architect student study and what they should know in order to become specialists. Every short explanations stands separately in order to make them more clear with drawing attached to each. Every comment observes separate subject with author’s opinion and comments provided. The book can be read differently: you can read the entire book at once or stop and analyze one separate aspect continuously. The original style of the author makes the book easy to read. Speaking about the content, I must say that the author chose and made observation on the topics, which are not dull and easy to remember. This is very important for students who are not familiar with all the labyrinths of architecture as the observations are expressed in a very easy way. Some readers say that if to evaluate the book in terms of the design and content, the design wins. I can’t agree as personally for me the book appeared to be very substantial. The author pays much attention to the explanation of what the architectural profession is. Many pages of the book are devoted to that. Some say that it was not needed as this material may be interesting only for the first-year students and for the people whose profession has nothing in common with architecture. They based such an opinion on the fact that professional architects as well as elder students have already learned what their profession is and there was no need to devote a half of the book to such explanation. However, I can state and prove that this information is very interesting and first of all helpful not only for the first year students and for the people of other professions, but also for some elder students and maybe even for them in particular. This conclusion may sound strange but I can explain my opinion. That fact is that the choice of profession is made always not by students themselves but by their parents or somebody else. A student may simply follow somebody’s advice or repeat his friend’s choice. The choice of profession in this case is unconscious. Thus I met some third-fourth year students who studied well but did not even imagine how they will work on their specialty and even did not completely understand what they studied. Thus, I am sure that after reading this book, they will realize the essence of the specialty they receive. Moreover such students will become more interested in their own specialty, thus will become better specialists. To conclude it is important to say that â€Å"101 things I learned in Architecture School† by Matthew Frederick contains a lot of practical information for those who study architecture. Students can study theoretical and practical material, learn or revise drawing and design techniques. I can’

Microfinance - how government regulations affect microfinance in Literature review

Microfinance - how government regulations affect microfinance in Brazil - Literature review Example The governments of the nations have a crucial role to play from the regulatory and financing points of view. A lot of measures are required to make this form of financing a sustainable one. This requires the scope of the microfinance schemes to be further widened. There are several challenges that the governments of the countries opting for these kinds of schemes face. There is lack of mobility in the credit and a lot of reliance on the government as the source of the funds. The competitive environment of the microfinance sector is a lot biased towards the public sector organisations. Therefore the government needs to ensure all forms of transparency in the way the markets and the competitive forces work. Several works have been conducted over the years on various aspects of microfinance. A review of the literature would provide an insight into the microfinance sector and the regulatory framework within which the Brazilian microfinance companies work. Microfinance companies are consi dered to be feasible alternatives for banks as well as informal sources of credit. Collaterals are used to ensure the timely repayment of the funds. The specific feature of microfinance is that instead of an individual liability toward the lending institution, there is a cooperative liability towards the lender. This method guarantees that the funds are repaid on time or the payments are paid at regular intervals. If the individuals repay the loans on time, they get incentive to get loans of higher amount the next time which makes the borrowers credit worthy. The individuals opting for these kinds of schemes are forced to save for themselves so that the there is enough collateral for the amount of loan that they have taken. Due to the joint liability feature of the microcredit the risk of default is less because the people of a particular locality know each other well and they can estimate the repayment capacity and the chances of default of their co-borrowers. Along with this each of the parties in the loan can monitor each other. Therefore the basic economic problems like moral hazard or adverse selection can be removed through this feature of microfinance institutions in Brazil (Morduch, 1999, p. 1569). Though chiefly deployed by the NGOs of Brazil, the government is equally active in the developing nations in the promotion of the microfinance institutions and setting up of a stringent regulatory framework for the proper functioning of the industry. The government also has a significant role in granting credit of lump-sum amounts to the microfinance institutions. The study of various situations where the system of microcredit has been implemented has been conducted by the researchers. The results have shown that the schemes have positively affected the economies in which they were being implemented. The repayment rates had been quite high in those countries. This has been possible because of the structure of the model which entails extreme scrutiny of the b orrowers of the funds. The capital that is provided as the loan is also used effectively which necessitated the repayment on time. About 15 million households represent the informal sector in the Brazilian Economy. However, the microfinance institutions have been able to bring less than three hundred thousand under its purview. This means that apart from 2.5% of the prospective market, the remaining has remained untapped. There have been several attempts on part of
